Catherine Ford is a British actress, born in Bloomsbury. When her father left the family members, she was raised up by her mother godparents, and grandmother. As a young child, Ford battled anxious disorders, obsessive/compulsive and was afflicted through word-related associations. Ford became fascinated by acting during her teenage years and enrolled in the National Youth Theatre. After being accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School for a short time but Ford realized this was not the best venue for her. Ford reapplied for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and, on her fourth attempt she was eventually accepted. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's fellow students. The actor went on to get frequent roles on the show as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however, by that time, she had already made her debut on television in a 1991 episode of Surgical Spirit; she adopted the name of her professional "Catherine Tate". In the Nineties, Tate could be seen on television in programmes including The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Tate was a regular performer on stage and was a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company's 2000-2001 season. Tate gained recognition as a stand-up comedian, which has been added to her portfolio in 1996.
