Salma Hayek had her first major Hollywood role with Robert Rodriguez's Desperado. Then her fame grew with Frida and her Academy Award nomination. Hayek was also involved in television, as producer of executive productions for Ugly Betty and other hit shows. Salma Hayek Jimenez, daughter of Spanish and Lebanese parents was born in Mexico on the 2nd of September 1996, at Coatzacoalcos. Hayek was raised in a privileged Catholic family. As a young girl, she attended the convent of Louisiana. When she was in her teens, Hayek lived with her Texas aunt. In Mexico City she enrolled for a short time at the university but quit in order to focus on acting. The actress eventually was a leading character in Mexican television shows. The first film role she had in 1991, the edgy Hayek relocated into Los Angeles, California, determined to learn English and to become a Hollywood actress. After a couple of small projects and a few roles, she was then offered a lead role in the film Desperado with Antonio Banderas in 1995's Desperado.
